Feelings & friendship
You’ll need: paper, crayons, and an optional still image of the three friends.
Children can practice: noticing expressions, exploring feeling words, listening, and offering help.

An actual frame from Little Chicken Goes Into a Black Hole. The film is optional.
Notice a feeling · 3 minutes
Look at the friends in their bubble. Invite “I notice…” comments. Ask what their faces and bodies might tell us. Accept more than one interpretation.
Make a face, or point · 3 minutes
Invite a curious, surprised, or worried expression. Children can act, point to a picture, describe it, or pass. Never require them to describe a personal experience.
Be a kind co-pilot · 5 minutes
In pretend play, one character feels unsure. Practice “Would you like me to stay?” and “Let’s ask a grown-up.” Take turns speaking and listening.
Carry one kind word · 4 minutes
Draw two friends. Dictate or write one kind thing they could say. Let volunteers share. Finish by naming a trusted adult who can help.
Make it fit your little explorers.
Offer larger materials, a smaller number of choices, pointing instead of speaking, and a quiet observation role. An adult handles scissors. Use age-appropriate materials without small loose parts. Children can opt out.
Notice, don’t test.
Did a child notice an expression, name or indicate a feeling, or offer a supportive response? There is no score.
